Thinking about ticking the Ha Giang Loop off your Bucket list? Keep reading for a complete guide to Vietnam’s best Adventure!
WHAT IS THE HA GIANG LOOP?
The Ha Giang Loop tour is a 3-day unforgettable adventure through Vietnam’s most beautiful landscapes. You will spend days riding motorbikes through deep valleys, traditional villages and limestone cliffs, and the evenings partying, doing karaoke and making memories that will last a lifetime.
How do you book a ha giang loop tour?
You can book a tour online or in one of the company’s offices in Hanoi while you’re there.
With a tour, you can get an easy rider, breakfast lunch and dinner, accommodation, fuel cover and drinking water
We booked with Jasmine Tours and I would highly recommend them! However, no one I spoke to had a bad experience with any company they chose, as all tours take a similar route and provide the same great experience. If you do choose to book with Jasmine Tours, you can either book online or in the office in Hanoi.
When making an online booking with them, you can also include a return bus from Hanoi to Ha Giang. I would recommend also upgrading to the VIP Sleeper bus, as it’s not much more expensive but worth it for a 7-hour journey! (in my opinion).
How do you get to ha giang?
From Hanoi, the best way to get to Ha Giang is by bus, which takes about 7 hours and costs around 420,000 VND (£14)
You can either get a day bus or a sleeper bus
The sleeper bus leaves Hanoi at 7 pm and arrives at 03:30 am. If you decide to get this bus, I recommend having one night in Ha Giang before starting the tour, unless you want to jump straight in after a 7-hour bus!
I enjoyed getting the VIP sleeper bus in the day, arriving at Jasmine Hostel in the evening, having a decent sleep and then getting straight into the tour the following day.
TIP: get on the bus early so you can get yourself a top bed by the window. This is the best spot so you don’t have people walking by your head and you rest against the window.
when should you do a ha giang loop tour?
Firstly, I want to say that personally, I think that you can do the Loop any time of the year and have the best time! Your experience might just be slightly different
January, February, and March – These months are in the dry season and have the smallest amount of rain. In January, expect fewer tourists, dry and colder days, and quieter roads on the loop. In February, things start to liven up a bit, with temperatures remaining quite low, and then into March, you will find more tourists and decent temperatures.
April and May – Still little rain in April and good temperatures without too much humidity. In May, you find more rain showers.
June, July, August – Hot and Humid, with potential rain. It really depends on the day, we travelled in June and it was very hot and only had rain one afternoon, so we loved it.
September, October, November, and December – Some people really enjoy Vietnam in September October and November because the golden rice fields are in swing and they bring colour to the country. December is less recommended as although it is included in the dry season, temperatures start to drop.
what should you bring on the ha giang loop?
You will bring your main rucksack with you to your accommodation in Ha Giang, but you will just take your day sack on the tour, which will get strapped to the back of your bike.
I would recommend checking the weather forecast before your trip and packing accordingly, we went beginning of June and it was scorching hot, it only rained once for a couple of hours. However, it can often be rainy due to the location of Ha Giang, and when it rains, it RAINS and it’s very cold!
Here is what I would suggest bringing:
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 3 tops for the days
- trainers and socks
- underwear
- something to swim in
- something to sleep in
- towel
- wash kit
- suncream
- raincoat
- alternative top/bottoms for the evenings
- HEADPHONES – so much fun listening to music on the back of the bike!
If you take away just one thing from this blog post, it should be that the Ha Giang Loop MUST be on your bucket list for South East Asia. I will never stop raving about this unforgettable experience <3
