How to get to Koh Phangan

There are 2 main ways to get to Koh Phangan, depending on your budget and preferences, you can decide which way is best for you!

Option 1 – Direct ferry from Sarut Thani

Your first option is a ferry from Sarut Thani. Currently, there is one company which completes this route; Lomprayah High-Speed Ferries. The crossing operates up to 21 times each week, with durations from around 2 hours 30 minutes.

How to get to Sarut Thani? Coming from Bangkok, you can take a train to Surat Thani, which is approximately 12 hours and costs £5. I recommend getting an overnight train to save money on a night’s accommodation.

By Ferry…

After getting the train to Sarut Thani, take a ferry from Donsak Pier to Koh Samui; this is 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on what ferry you take (£4 – £10).

You should book your ferries a couple of days in advance to ensure you get the time you want, especially if you are travelling in peak season.

By Plane…

Getting to Koh Samui by plane is quick and easy, as the flight is only around 65 minutes. There are direct flights to Samui from various locations in Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Tickets are however quite expensive, starting from around £110. Samui Airport is owned by Bangkok Airways, meaning flights here are often more expensive than other places in Thailand. Search and book on 12GoAsia, SkyScanner, or Bangkok Airways
