The Amalfi coast is a painter’s dream and a photographer’s fantasy. There’s no doubt why people flock to it every year!
Where should you stay on the Amalfi Coast?
I would recommend staying in Sorrento. This is where we stayed and not only was it a great location, but also a beautifully picturesque town. From Sorrento, you can get boats /ferries to all the famous locations, Amalfi, Positano etc.
How long should you spend on the Amalfi coast?
Definitely at least a week. We only had 5 days and it wasn’t enough time to do everything we wanted. When we were speaking to people while we were there, most people said they were there for 2 weeks and we realised why. We managed to do the main bits but since we also went to Pompeii for the day, there were a couple of places such as Rivello which we missed out on.
When should you visit the Amalfi coast?
We went at the end of April and we had gorgeous weather! however the evenings were a little nippy, and because we were cramming everything in we were knackered by the evening so we stayed in the hotel. We went outside of the Easter holidays and it was busy even then, so I can imagine it gets quite packed in summer, but then because you’re on the coast, and you can move about a lot, I doubt you would feel crammed in. Having nice weather definitely made a difference, for me, i would rather have the sun and the heat and a few more people. but go outside of the school holidays if you can.
What should you do while on the Amalfi coast?
- Take a boat trip to Positano
- Take a boat trip to Amalfi
- Wander around Sorrento town
- Try a Limoncello Spritz and Limoncello ice cream
Do’s and dont’s
Do…
Stay in a smaller town (not Positano)
Rent a boat or a Vespa if you want to get around the towns yourself. if not the Ferry tickets are great and you can hop on and of when you like
Dont…
Hire a car, the roads along the amalfi coast are small, windy, and can get super busy!
Dont (or at least try not to) travel during an Italian holiday like we did! it took us double the amount of time it should take to get from Naples to Sorrento!
